I just had dinner with my family at a fine-dining restaurant over at Raffles Town Club. And with some help from my elder brother, we had a free session on fine-dining etiquette.
*Background music: Classical pieces of music from various artists.. *
Lesson no.1: (After bread is served... ...)
Mum - "Ben, actually usually people eat the bread by tearing it into bite-size before spreading the butter"
Me - "... ... Okay."
Lesson no.2:
Dad - "Actually the big plate is for show only. We should put the small plates on top when eating"
Me,Sis,Mum - (Places our small plates neatly on top the bigger plate)
Brother - "By right the bread plate should be by the side not on top. Other plates (except the bread plate) can be placed on top"
Me,Sis,Mum - (Stealthfully returns the bread plate to its original position)
Lesson no.3:(Soup was subsequently served)
Mum - "By right, should we be scooping the soup inwards or outwards in the bowl?"
Brother -"Outwards.. 'Inwards' is for chinese soup."
Lesson no.4:(After finishing our Main dish)
Mum (Seeing that dad's fork and knife were places at the two extremes sides of the plate) - "Hm.. How should the fork and knifes be placed after finishing.. ?"
Brother - "Placed together at the right side of the plate.."
Me - "Even for left-handers ar?"
Brother - "Eh.. Yah."
End Of Lesson..
Hahs.. Actually it was kinda weird cos it wasn't our first time eating at that restaurant. I guess no one actually bothered to pay attention to all these minute details until today. Moreover, my brother had attended optional lessons on 'Fine-dining Etiquettes' by his school recently. Been sleeping kinda late recently. And I guess tonite is no exception.. Haha.
